Which is better, catching one large animal or many small animals to eat?
• Large animals
• Small animals
• Middle sized animals
• Eat plants instead
Answer: Large animals
Enduring extreme conditions in any survival situation can be a daunting experience, even for the most experienced and skilled individual. Situations like this can rapidly drain a person’s mental and physical energy. If given the opportunity, it is best to hunt large animals so it becomes one less thing you have to do to survive.
Hunting small and middle sized animals like lizards, squirrels and rabbits can drain your energy, especially if you have to hunt on a daily basis. Turning to plants requires vast knowledge in wild edibles grown in the area and may not provide the much needed nutrients to sustain your energy levels.
If possible, hunt for larger animals to help conserve energy. This is even more important if you have a group of people in a survival situation with limited hunting skills and gear. In the end, it’s important to consider all elements of survival needed to overcome any type of emergency situation.
While hunting small game may seem the easiest, it will definitely take much more work. Making decisions in any SHTF scenario will always be dictated by the tools and situation at hand.
