🚨[ALERT]🚨 Think TWICE Before Using This Accessory!
(ModernSurvival.org) – For many Americans, Halloween is a joyful holiday marked by spooky costumes, haunted houses, and trick-or-treating with children. While partiers may feel the effects of a long night the next day, a warning from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says some may experience more than just a hangover.

According to the CDC, wearing costume contact lenses can lead to some spooky side effects unless they’re prescribed by a doctor. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) lists contact lenses as Class II and III medical devices. This means they can cause moderate health risks when not used properly.
For decorative lenses purchased online, there is no guarantee the items were handled with the proper supervision to meet the FDA’s standards. Not only could these costume lenses be dangerous, but websites that sell them without a prescription are also breaking the law.
To make matters worse, even prescription contact lenses bring with them a laundry list of potential health issues — from bacterial and fungal infections in the eye to parasitic infections. Following the directions given by an eye doctor lessens the risk of these issues occurring. Unfortunately, most people still make dangerous mistakes when using these products.
The most common mistake made by contact lens wearers is that they fall asleep with the lenses on. This greatly increases the chances of getting an infection in the cornea. While many people would think to remove costume lenses before retiring to bed, those who have been up late or consuming alcoholic beverages may forget to do so.
Further complicating the use of decorative lenses is the fact they’re not designed specifically for the user’s eye. Prescription lenses are custom-crafted in a variety of sizes and materials, and only an eye doctor can determine which is best suited for a person.
Wearing lenses that aren’t the right fit could lead to eye damage, such as scratches or ulcers. Should this damage lead to scarring, it could also cause permanent loss of vision.
Halloween is supposed to be a fun time for all. Wearing a cheap pair of decorative lenses to look scary isn’t worth a lifetime of bad vision.
