Marigold, also known as Calendula, has been used throughout history dating back to the 12th century. It’s mostly used to help relieve minor burns, wounds and other skin problems but it does have other medicinal properties and benefits.


It’s important not to confuse it with the Tagetes plant. This type of marigold is more commonly used by people who celebrate “Dia de los Muertos” or “Day of the Dead” as a decoration to show respect for their deceased loved ones.

Marigold is not difficult to plant and can withstand hot summers. They can be grown in most soils but do best when the ground is fertile and well-drained.

It can be used as an herbal infusion, a topical solution, or as an eye wash and helps alleviate ailments like cancer, skin conditions, bursitis, body toxins, and menstrual pains.

It can be brewed as a tea or add color and flavor to dishes like stews, soups, salads, and drinks. When marigold is powdered, it can be used as an alternative to saffron.
