Expert Tips to Stop Burglars DEAD in Their Tracks

(ModernSurvival.org) – Home invasions are an unfortunate reality for many people in America. In fact, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) estimates that burglaries occur across the nation every 25.7 seconds. With statistics like this, and crime rates rising, it’s a very good idea to learn how to handle a home invasion before someone breaks in.

In the following video, former Navy SEAL Clint Emerson shares some tips on how to prepare to survive a home invasion:

According to Clint, defending the home from potential invaders begins with the four Ds: deter, detect, deny, and defend.

    • Deter. The main idea is to make the home uninviting to a potential invader. Light up the property, eliminating shadowy areas where criminals can sneak around unseen. Additionally, make the house seem unpredictable. A “Beware of Dog” sign, alarm stickers, or a security posting in the yard can make a thief second-guess setting foot on private property. Installing security systems can help deter burglars as well. Cameras will identify the prowler, but only if they’re installed strategically. If the rising or setting sun shines directly on the lens, the camera likely won’t capture a crook on film.
    • Detect. The easiest way to detect a thief is by talking to your neighbors. A friendly relationship with them could lead to an unofficial neighborhood watch, with everyone keeping an eye on one another’s properties.
    • Deny. The concept here is simple: keep thieves out of your home. According to Emerson, most burglars attempt to enter a residence through the garage, since the door linking it to the house is often left unlocked. This inner door should be locked any time it isn’t in use. Clint also suggests updating the doors in your home to make them harder to break through. Windows should get attention, too. Hurricane film is one way to keep a burglar out if they attempt to shatter a window, or at least give you valuable seconds to react as they try to fight their way in.
    • Defend. According to Emerson, the most important aspect of defending your home is having a plan. He also suggests having a “tactical nightstand” prepared if an invasion were to occur in the middle of the night. This nightstand should include a flashlight, a weapon or firearm, car keys (to set off the alarm, alerting your neighbors), and a fully charged cell phone ready to call 911. When it comes to weapons, Clint stresses that a homeowner needs to be comfortable with whatever weapons they choose to defend their homes. This minimizes the chances of a burglar taking it and using it against you. If a fight does break out, remember that it is a fight for your life. The primary goal is to inflict pain to incapacitate your opponent. As Clint says in the video, “Your violence has to be equal to or greater than your adversary’s.”
