Coronavirus Gun Confiscations — Really

Coronavirus Gun Confiscations — Really

( – With the coronavirus bringing widespread chaos throughout the country, law-abiding citizens already have plenty to worry about. Unfortunately, some politicians just can’t let a crisis go by without trying to exploit it.

On March 16, New Orleans Mayor, LaToya Cantrell (D), in response to COVID-19, signed an emergency order giving herself the power to ban the transportation and sales of guns. Cantrell’s declaration states she is “empowered, if necessary, to suspend or limit the sale of alcoholic beverages, firearms, explosives, and combustibles.”

This blatant assault on the Bill of Rights did not go unchallenged. The same day the emergency order was signed, the Second Amendment Foundation’s (SAG) President, Alan Gottlieb, reminded the Mayor that they had sued the city after Hurricane Katrina for confiscating firearms. He also made it clear they are willing to do it again.

There seems to be no limit to the lows some politicians will stoop to in order to push their own agendas. We need to be especially vigilant now, as the snakes in the grass are beginning to show themselves. Stay safe, stay stocked. If history is any indication, this won’t be the only instance of politicians trying to step on your 2A rights in the midst of a crisis.
