Catching-the-Best-Animals-for-Survival

(Modern Survival.org) – Which is better, catching one large animal or many small animals to eat?

• Large animals

• Small animals

• Medium-sized animals

• Eat plants instead

Answer: Large animals. Here’s why…

Survival situations can be daunting at best. With the constant struggle to find drinkable water and enough food to sustain the body, anything that can help alleviate some of the burdens is welcome.

Once potable water has been located, finding enough calories to sustain life is the next chore. In this case, hunting is the best option. But what are the best animals to hunt in a survival scenario?

What to Hunt?

In a true survival scenario, chances are high that hunting animals for food will become a necessity. But what kinds of animals should be hunted? Large game such as deer, elk, and moose, or smaller animals such as rabbits, squirrels, and lizards?

In this case, it’s better to go for quality over quantity. Large game animals will provide more bang for the buck (pun intended). Getting a larger animal will provide more meat, with less expenditure of calories to get it. Additionally, if there are multiple people in the survival group, larger animals will feed more people than a squirrel.

Granted, without a way to preserve the meat, it can go bad quickly so it’s a good idea to learn how to preserve the meat for long-term storage.

When the alternative is starvation, one must take food however they can get it. Large animal or small. Thankfully, there are time-tested methods of hunting small game that doesn’t require a lot of time or energy, both of which are vital in a survival situation.
